Jewish Prayers From the Heart and Pen of Alden Solovy

The Broken Sky

Another song of the Spiritual Traveler, hinting that if we look beyond that which appears to be broken we will see that everything is holy.

ADDENDUM, April 28, 2019: I posted this before the Poway Chabad shooting. Pennsylvania Interfaith Power and Light re-posted it as a prayer of hope after the shooting saying: “On this last day of Passover, six months to the day after Tree of Life, we are holding our Jewish supporters, friends, and neighbors, and grieving for us all.” After Tree of Life, Christchurch and Sri Lanka, perhaps a prayer of hope is needed now.

The Broken Sky
Look beyond the broken sky,
Cracked by a blaze of sorrow,
To the edge of the universe,
Where stars dance in endless spirals.

There is nothing as small as an angry mind,
And nothing so large as forgiveness.
There is nothing as wild as breathless love,
And nothing as free as your soul.

Look beyond the life you know,
Yearning for signs of truth,
To the shimmering edge of faith itself,
Where holiness sings to the willing heart.
